Joe Jones of Airmail Greetings, joins forces with former Marine and good friend, Bobby "Gunny" Baumgartner, to host the November tour stop for the EAA's B-17 "Aluminum Overcast". Both artist and Marine accept the challenge, but both agreed their event was not going to be the same old standard tour stop we see so often. Particularly, with the 2008 tour being deemed the "Salute to Veteran's" tour. With only two months to prepare, the two men did indeed mount an all-out effort to produce a signature veteran's event the likes of which is rarely seen in this country anywhere. Realizing the scope and vision of their event, the EAA stepped it up to run 150 cable spots announcing this milestone veteran's event and tour stop on CNN, History, Discovery, ESPN, Golf, AEN, along with many others. Developed as a learning experience, the event was designed to truly put a real, flesh and blood face to our American heritage. Through three days of riveting panel discussions from distinguished veterans representing WWII, Korea, the Cold War, and Vietnam, their little tour stop broke several EAA records and quickly grew into what is now being hailed as a major national veterans event. It is estimated over 200,000 servicemen and women nation wide were formally invited to this special veterans event. The EAA now considers this to be a template event. You can bet talks are already underway in preparation for next year's topper. ROCKY MOUNTAIN METROPOLITAN AIRPORT We are elated to report: Mission Accomplished! With the bustling flight operations of the massive B-17, Aluminum Overcast as our poignant backdrop, this special event was conceived and produced as a tangible opportunity to bring our entire community together to pay honor to the hundreds of distinguished veterans that could join us, but particularly to pay our respect to all veterans that have been lost, or simply couldn't be with us for this extraordinary three day event. We gratefully thank the "above and beyond" efforts and leadership of so many individuals and groups here in the Rocky Mountain community that came together to help bring history, hardware and humanity together in a way seldom ever seen in this country. We look forward to seeing you at our ambitious 2009 event topper! Check the photo page for pictures of the event! "Without the genuine recognition and celebration of our past, we effectively rob our future
of all relevant context."
